So I’ve been in Florida for about two weeks now! Turns out it’s not as warm as I hoped but it beats the -40 degrees Celsius we were dealing with in Canada not long ago! Kurt and I have been pretty busy and have been doing lots - I’ve tried plenty of different beer which is great fun since I’ve been on a craft beer kick all winter 😂👍🏼🍺

Kurt works with the US Navy so he goes to work super early in the morning, meaning I get to lay low throughout the day until he’s done. I’ve been hanging out with his doggie, Chloe, and we go for walks and check out the neighbourhood and surrounding area together.
I got a pass to work out at a nearby gym for the next few weeks which is great! I can walk there, get a solid workout in and walk home. His neighbourhood is a gated community and other people seem like they get out of the house lots too which is nice.
We’ve gone by the river/intercoastal to take his little doggie for a walk and once I got over my fear of seeing a snake (Kurt claims they wouldn’t be out right now because it’s not that warm) then it was fun to walk through the forest area and watch Chloe play in the water.
I think one of my favourite things about coming to America is seeing all of their crazy food items in the grocery store that we don’t have in Canada. I was BESIDE MYSELF when I saw these cereals in Winn Dixie the other day! I’m not sure Kurt completely understands how entertaining it is for me to be here and to look at everything (he might think I’m a little psycho ;) ).

We made our way to St Augustine on Friday, January 24 for a date night and a walk around. We went for dinner and ordered way too much food and then I could barely move along the little streets after because I was so full! It reminded me a lot of a mini Canmore but nautical themed. Lots of art displays, local candy stores and places with live music, too. We saw people playing the banjo and spoons in the street which was pretty neat - very southern states!😉
The next day, Kurt took me to the Navy Base where I got to check out the helicopters and all sorts of things. It is so different because I had no idea that a naval base had grocery stores, little restaurants, its own dentist, and more. The base is its own little town within itself which is quite odd.
Finally, on the Sunday we went to Ulta Beauty (which I was pumped to go to) and poor Kurt waited around over an hour while I strolled down the aisles and looked at everything. If I could go back in time, I wouldn’t have packed any makeup if I knew what kind of goodies were in Ulta! I ended up picking up a stick foundation, concealer, some tinted brow wax and mascara which are all things I needed anyway!
From there, we made our way to downtown Jacksonville where there was a boat show going on. Jacksonville is an incredibly widespread city so it takes around 45 minutes to drive anywhere. We passed this cute little old fire station that was for sale.
That afternoon we spent looking at tons of boats neither of us could ever afford, ha! But we each got a drink at the boat show and loved looking around and picking which ones we liked best. I personally like anything that doesnt look like a fishing boat and that ones that can hold the most friends (& coolers). I’ve never actually been aboard a boat that has a little bed underneath so that was interesting to see.
Throughout the week we prepared to go to DISNEY and UNIVERSAL! I’ll make a separate post about it since I started adding it to this and it got way too long, way too fast!
